Kerala Tourism website, 'www.keralatourism.org' has won the National Tourism Award for using latest advances in Information Technology for the Marketing. The award is instituted by the Union Tourism Ministry and it is the fifth time when Kerala website bags the award since its inception in 2001.
State Tourism Minister A. P Anil Kumar received the award in the category of Most Innovative use of IT/Best Website and Portal from President Pratibha Patil at a ceremony organised in New Delhi on February 29, 2012. Encouraged by the award, Kerala Tourism announced that it would roll out a new set of user-friendly mobile-based applications very soon.
The website, which is available in Malayalam, English, Hindi, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Arabic and Chinese receives around 1.75 lakh visitors and 7-8 lakh page views monthly. Several international search engines have ranked 'www.keralatourism.org' as the first site for information on Kerala since 2003. The official page of Kerala Tourism in Twitter has 8,400 followers. Thiruvananthapuram-based Invis Multimedia is the master head of the award winning website.
The Union Tourism Ministry presents the National Tourism Awards every year to various segments of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry as a prestigious recognition of achievements.
